Springtime is almost upon us, so it’s time to dig out your marigolds for the annual spring clean! Rather than using harsh chemicals to clean your home, why not try out some of these DIY cleaning products that you can make using items you already have around the house? They are made from natural products and claim to work just as well as their shop bought counterparts! Check out some of the best that we’ve found on the web…

1. Citrus Vinegar Cleaner

This DIY home all-purpose cleaner is very effective on windows, counter and polished flooring.

What you’ll need: Citrus Peels, Glass Jar, White Vinegar and Spray Bottle.

All you need to do is take the citrus peel and place them in your glass jar until it is full, pour the white vinegar over them and leave for two weeks. Then take the peel out of the jar and dilute the vinegar with an equal amount of water. Simply pour into a spray bottle and start cleaning!

2. Toilet Cleaner

This simple mixture is great for using every day to keep your toilets nice and clean.

What you’ll need: Vinegar and Essential Oil.

Simply take around 5 drops of your essential oil (pick a scent of your choosing – we think that lemon or citrus smells are best for bathrooms!) and mix with a cup of vinegar. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, apply to your toilet seat and wipe off.

3. Two-Ingredient Air Freshener

Why shell out cash on overpriced air freshener to mask bad smells in your home, when you can make your own at home which claims to eliminate smells? Best of all, you only need 2 ingredients!

What you’ll need: Baking Soda and Essential Oil.

Take some thick card and use the lid of a glass jar to trace a circle, cut it out and then use a pin to poke around 20 holes into the circle. Then fill your glass jar around ¾ full with baking soda and mix in 5-10 drops of your essential oil. Insert your card back into the neck of the jar and secure it with either tape or a ringed lid. All you have to do is place your jar in the room that needs to smell fresh, just giving the jar a little shake every time you want another burst of scent. You can even shake some of the mix out onto your carpets for an hour, then vacuum it up for a fresher floor!
