Christmas is all about friends, family and FOOD! Let’s be honest, as much as we love spending time with our loved ones, the real highlight of the festive season is the abundance of delicious treats that appear around the house. Turkey, cheese, crisps, puddings… But all this food needs accompaniments and that is where our Christmas preserve recipes come in!

Chutneys, jams and pickles are fantastic additions to your main Christmas meal, but can also be used in the evenings and days after the big day with all the leftovers! Think luxurious cheeseboards and Boxing Day turkey sandwiches… You can even turn these preserves into great little gifts for friends and family by storing them in posh glass jars and adding ribbon and personalised labels. 1. Apple & Cranberry Chutney

Cranberries have become synonymous with Christmas, mainly because the taste goes so well with roasted meat. This tangy chutney is the perfect pairing for a strong cheddar!

Ingredients: Cooking Apples, Eating Apples, Onions, Root Ginger, Peppercorns, Granulated Sugar, Cider Vinegar and Cranberries.

2. Christmas Chutney

This recipe is fresh, fruity and fragrant, using all the traditional dried fruit associated with Christmas. Recommended to be eaten with sausages and pork pies!

Ingredients: Pitted Prunes, Dried Apricots, Pitted Dates, Onions, Cider Vinegar, Sea Salt, Fresh Root Vinegar, Allspice Berries and Demerara Sugar.

3. Mary Berry’s Christmas Chutney

If the Christmas Chutney above isn’t floating your boat, how about this version from the Queen of baking herself, Mary Berry? This version does not feature any fruits but lots of lovely veg, making it delicious for leftover turkey sandwiches!

Ingredients: Tomatoes, Red peppers, Green Peppers, Onions, Garlic, Granulated Sugar, White Wine Vinegar, Salt, Coriander Seeds, Paprika and Cayenne Pepper.

4. Christmas Jam

Filled with the spices of the holiday, this preserve is jam-packed with cranberries, apples and oranges that taste amazing on buttery toast. Best of all, it only takes 45 minutes to make!

Ingredients: Cinnamon Stick, Cloves, Cooking Apples, Oranges, Orange Juice, Cranberries and Granulated Sugar.

5. Chilli Jam

This jam is an acquired taste, but the heat of the chilli is toned down by the sugar and, when paired with a hard cheese, it is absolutely scrumptious! Not to be confused with a jam that can be spread on toast, this preserve is more of a jelly accompaniment to cold meats and cheese.

Ingredients: Fresh Red Chilli Peppers, Red Peppers, Jam Sugar and Cider Vinegar.

6. Fig & Olive Chutney

This preserve is a clash of two cultures: British and Italian, but the result is chutney that is in perfect harmony. The sweet and tanginess of this chutney is recommended to be eaten with a high quality, sharp Italian cheese. An unusual gift for friends and family!

Ingredients: Soft Dried Figs, Pitted Black Olives, Dark Brown Muscovado Sugar, Fennel Seeds, Ground Cinnamon, Ground Cloves, Marsala, Red Wine Vinegar and Water.

7. Mincemeat With Brandy

Why not use this delicious, traditional mincemeat recipe to make your own mince pies? What could be more festive? This luxurious recipe also has  the addition of brandy, for a warming winter kick!

Ingredients: Mixed Peel, Raisins, Sultanas, Bramley Apples, Dark Brown Sugar, Suet, Almonds, Ground Cinnamon, Mixed Spice, Ground Nutmeg, Lemons and Brandy.

8. Spiced Plums

This fruit preserve is the food equivalent to mulled wine; with fragrant star anise and cinnamon complementing the deep red wine ‘sauce’. These plums can be eaten with ice cream, made into a crumble or simply enjoyed on their own!

Ingredients: Dry Red Wine, Caster Sugar, Cinnamon Sticks, Star Anise and Plums.

9. Festive Apple Jellies

You might think that apple and chilli don’t go together, but when mixed together in this jelly and eaten with roasted meat, you’ll soon change your mind! As well as being tasty, this preserve looks vibrant and exciting – making it the perfect homemade Christmas gift.
